PH 4/3 TABLE LAMP
Classic Danish mid century large white desk light by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen in 1966
PH 4/3 table lamp by Poul Henningsen (PH) for Louis Poulsen in 1966 – classic large white desk light – in good vintage condition.
A super stylish table lamp, comprised of a circular chromed-plated brass base with a black molded Bakelite triangular piece in the middle, echoed at the end of the chromed-plated steel arm. The upper triangle acts as base for three white powder coated aluminum shades, and on top sits three aluminum screws which fasten the shades to each other as well as the triangular Bakelite piece.
The PH 4/3 table lamp is part of PH 4/3 series, introduced in 1966, which were designed due to the desire to hang PH pendants at lower heights. Its design is based on the same principle as PH’s other three-shade lighting fixtures. PH, in collaboration with Louis Poulsen, designed the three-shade system as early as 1925, when he was drawing the first lamps for an exhibition in Paris. It is called a ‘hybrid’ model by using a top shade from a PH 4/4 and a lower shade from a PH 3/3 – thus providing more downward directed illumination.
Emitting the trademark PH glare-free light – soft and diffused, and now with plenty of downward directed light – it fits perfect on a large mid century office table or credenza in the living room. It could also be a captivating piece on a drawer in an entryway.
