Sky-blue plastic lamp by Lars Schioler for Danish Hoyrup Light in 1960. Danish Mid century hanging light in excellent vintage condition
PEARLSHADE, blue lamp by Lars Schioler for Danish Hoyrup Light in 1960 – charming sky-blue plastic hanging light in excellent vintage condition.
This beauty is comprised of a pleated sky-blue shade, slightly oval-shaped, and white plastic rims at the bottom and top. The shade is fixed to an inner plastic tube, separating the shade from the bulb to avoid heating damage to the shade.
When lit, the sky-blue plastic creates a soft diffused light, and the open top and bottom gives way for upward and downward directed light, making it ideal for hanging over a smaller or medium sized dining table or kitchen table. It could also be a beautiful addition in the bedroom or living room, even welcoming guest in a small entry way.
The PEARLSHADE is often credited as being a design by Holm Sørensen, but it is in fact designed by Lars Schioler in 1960 and was introduced in the first catalogue by Hoyrup Light in 1960 – Schioler and Hoyrup Light even got a patent for the pleated PEARLSHADE in 1961. It was produced in number of sizes and colors.
