Yellow pendant by K Kewo 1960s Nordisk Solar Compagni. Super cute sunny yellow retro hanging lamp in excellent vintage condition
The MINISOL was designed in the 1960s by K Kewo (not Sven Middelboe, as many vintage shops mistakenly think) for Danish lamp producer Nordisk Solar Compagni. Produced in a wide range of retro colors in robust ABS plastic.
In the 60’s plastic was “the new black”, and designers conceived new designs and colors based on the versatile properties of the new material. The MINISOL is an excellent example of this!
Nordisk Solar Compagni had access to technology and expertise in molding plastics through their sister business, Audiola, who produced radios.
Throughout its heyday in the 1950s and 1960s, Nordisk Solar Compagni commissioned a small number of prominent architects and designers to produce its lighting designs. These included Max Brüel, Jørgen Kastholm and Preben Fabricius, Acton Bjørn, Sigvard Bernadotte, Sven (aka Svend) Middelboe and Jørn Utzon – who later and most famously designed the Sydney Opera House.
MINISOL is similar in style and size to Verner Panton’s Flowerpot, from the same era. It is a charming lamp that could fit in almost anywhere in the modern home, alone or in pairs. Cast in full colored hard ABS plastic it is a seriously attractive piece. The shiny surface reflecting the contours of the surrounding room, saturated by the color of the pendant.
A beautiful sunny yellow pendant and it is in excellent vintage condition with minimal signs of usage and age. Please see the photos.
