Large table lamp by Thykier in 1930, and produced by Fog & Morup. Large polished brass and acrylic table light in very good vintage condition
KONGLELYS table lamp by Niels Rasmussen Thykier in 1930, and put into production by Fog & Mørup in 1937 – large polished brass table light with acrylic shade, in very good vintage condition.
An impressive table lamp, comprised of a circular base from where an arm of solid brass rises straight up to end as socket mount, hidden inside in top of the arm. To ensure enough space to the bulb, three polished brass tubes holds a metal platform, on which the acrylic shade lies. To secure the shade, a polished brass top is screwed through the shade and into the metal platform – a truly stunning table light.
The off-white, almost beige acrylic shade create a soft illumination to the surrounding area, while ensuring that most of the light is guided downwards to illuminate surface on which it stands. An very elegant table lamp with a timeless feel, that would look absolutely amazing no matter where you would place it – in the living room, office or even in the entry way – with its stylish expression. Very modern piece despite it was designed more that 80 years ago!
The KONGELYS was originally designed in 1930 by Thykier and named T3 Minor, but is was not until 1937, as he started collaborating with Fog & Mørup that the T3 Minor was produced in large scale. Fog & Mørup changed the name to KONGELYS (meaning Kings’ Light in English), and the first copy was given to King Christian X of Denmark, as a present for his 25th anniversary. It features a cardboard shade and burnished brass, but it was not solid brass, as Thykier wanted it, so collaboration ended quickly.
Fog & Mørup kept the KONGELYS in the product range, with some changes along the way – the burnished brass was replaced by polished brass, the cardboard shade was replaced by an acrylic shade. In 1999 the KONGELYS was relaunched by Horn Belysning (who had bought Fog & Mørup in 1991), and the first copy was given to her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, as a present for her 60th birthday. This version featured an opal glass shade and copper – only 500 copies were made. In 2004 a new version was launched, with brushed steel instead of copper or brass – again only 500 copies were made.
Beautiful and impressive table lamp, and this KONGELYS is produced after 1985, in solid brass with acrylic shade.

Very few signs of usage and age, no chips or cracks in the acrylic shade. Only think keeping me from classifying this piece to be in excellent condition, it is tiny dent in the brass top. All brass parts have been polished to make the brass shine again. Please see the photos.
