White Bakelite canopy – used for hidding ceiling connection for suspended and hanging lamps or pendants.
LARGER WHITE canopy / ceiling rose produced in Bakelite (a hard resin, early plastic product) for that fully authentic feel.
Used for hiding junction and socket connections of suspended lamp fixtures, allowing for a neat, stylish and clean finishing.
Beautiful curved molding profile that provides a stylish finish for your vintage light!
Please note – that the canopy itself does not include parts for securing the lamp to the ceiling, its only purpose is making the finish towards the ceiling pretty!
For securing hanging lights at the ceiling you should always think about the weight of the fixture, but in most instances a secured hook with a screw end in the ceiling, combined with using a cable tie (plastic zip tie) is sufficient.
If you have any questions about hanging lights, please do not hesitate to ask – I’ll be more than happy to help!
One of the first plastics made from synthetic components, Bakelite was used for its electrical nonconductivity and heat-resistant properties in electrical insulators, radio and telephone casings, and such diverse products as kitchenware, jewelry, pipe stems, firearms, and children’s toys. The “retro” appeal of old Bakelite products has made them collectible.
Bakelite was designated a National Historic Chemical Landmark on November 9, 1993 by the American Chemical Society in recognition of its significance as the world’s first synthetic plastic.
