It was in the late 1960s, that Danish furniture maker Hans Gustav Ehrenreich created the first prototypes for the Hoptimist; Birdie, Bimble and Bumble. He had already tinkered with many different materials and designs in his workshop at his house. By 1968 Ehrenreich began producing mobiles; Birdies. Later, he introduced Bimble and Bumble as well as Kvak, the frog.
Ehrenreich participated in several international craft exhibitions, receiving honors both at home in Denmark and abroad. The Hoptimists were produced until 1974. In 2009 the Hoptimists were re-launched by the Danish designer Lotte Steffensen and the Hoptimist company.
