About the design
VP Europa is a super RARE lamp by Verner Panton in 1977 and produced by Louis Poulsen the following year.
It is a breathtaking beauty comprised of a luxurious blown glass shade with a sleek two-part chrome-plated brass top. The mushroom-like shade is partly covered with a milky-white layer on the upper two-thirds and the sides, while the lower one-third is kept clear to gain optimal downward directed light without creating glare sideways or upwards. The chrome top conceals the suspension as well as the bulb socket, which is covered with a red coating to add warmth to the emitted light.
Verner Panton created the VP Europa lighting series in 1977, consisting of two pendants, two table lamps and a floor lamp – all with the same key element, the absolutely beautiful blown glass shade. The VP EUROPA series was produced by Louis Poulsen from 1978 for a few years.
The smallest of the table lamps as well as the smallest of the pendants features a more mushroom-shaped shade, whereas the largest of the table lamps, the largest of the pendants and the floor lamp features a more elongated and narrower shade. The pendant has chrome-plated tops, whereas the table lamps and the floor lamp have a curved chrome-plated base and a chrome-plated top.
This is the smallest of the two pendants.
