About the design

Spika table lamp is designed by Bent Karlby for ASK Belysning in 1971.

A space-age table lamp with a shade cast in two color acrylics, fitted in a rosewood base. The acrylic shade has a half ball / half inverted bell shape, mirrored into a full round shape, one half white and the other bright orange. The shade is carefully embraced by a dark rosewood base, which also acts as the base for the bulb mount.

When lit, the acrylic shade glows and radiates a warm orange toned ambiance – by flipping the shade (which sits loose in the base), you are able to completely alter the mood and appearance of the light.

Bent Karlby and ASK Belysning collaborated for a brief period in 1970 and 1971, as Karlby designed a lighting series in Plexiglas and acrylic. Among these are the Ergo, the Pan (in new material and new colors) and the Spika.

The Spika was produced in a wide range of colors, where one half of the acrylic shade was either white, light blue, light gray, Indian yellow, orange, red or gray-brown – all with the other half circle white and wooden base.
