About the design
Pearlshade is designed by Lars Schioler for Hoyrup Light in 1960.
It is comprised of a pleated plastic shade, slightly oval shaped, and with faux wood on the rims. The shade is fixed to an inner plastic tube, separating the shade from the bulb to avoid heating damage to the shade.
When lit, the plastic shade creates a soft diffused light, and the open top and bottom gives way for upward and downward directed light, making it ideal for hanging over a dining table or kitchen table. It could also be a beautiful addition in the bedroom or living room.
The Pearlshade is often credited as being a design by Holm Sørensen, but it is in fact designed by Lars Schioler in 1960 and was introduced in the first catalogue by Hoyrup Light in 1960 – Schioler and Hoyrup Light even got a patent for the pleated Pearlshade in 1961. It was produced in number of sizes and colors.
