About the design

The Opala Floor Lamp is designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1978 and originally produced Louis Poulsen.

Wegner designed the Opala Series for Hotel Scandinavia in Copenhagen, consisting of three versions (pendant, floor and table version), all with opal acrylic shade and white or black wet painted aluminum top. The Series quickly went into production at Louis Poulsen, and are still produced today (now by Pandul). The versatile applications of the light have paved the way for use in offices, public buildings and private homes alike – and even for large scale projects like e.g. the Churchill College in Cambridge by Architect Henning Larsen.

The floor lamp version is comprised of a high gloss opal acrylic shade with black aluminum cap on top, resting on a thick black round stem on a thick black round aluminum base with incorporated on/off switch.
