About the design

The Mandarin pendant light is designed by Michael Bang in 1983 and produced by Holmegaard.

It is a beautiful mouth-blown opal glass pendant with an organic trumpet-like shape. The delicate opal glass ensures an evenly distribution of light towards the sides, while the open wide bottom provides a direct flow of light downward. A super minimalist shape combined with the extravagance of the rich opal color makes the Mandarin a timeless beauty.

Michael Bang designed the Mandarin in 1983, which in the following year was introduced by Holmegaard an opal or black mouth-blown glass version. The pendant was released in four different sizes, whereas the matching sconce was produced in two sizes. Neither the sconce or the pendant are being produced today.

The one shown on the photos is the Mandarin XL – the largest version.
