About the design

Kreta is a mouth blown glass pendant designed by Jacob E. Bang in 1964 and produced by Fog & Mørup in collaboration with Holmegaard Glassworks.

It is a mouth glass blown pendant – double layered glass with colored outer and white inner – shaped with a wide body and a elongated and narrowing neck. The double layered glass ensures a completely glare free light, while the white inner ensures that the emitted light is evenly distributed along the sides and gently guide through the narrow open bottom. The colored outer emits a soft warm glow.

The Kreta is designed by Jacob E. Bang (in close collaboration with Jo Hammerborg to ensure that the design would fit with the existing Fog & Mørup product line), and was released in 1964 in five colors; light gray, olive, yellow, opal and this beautiful purple version. Each Kreta is comprised of mouth blown glass from Holmegaard Glassworks, and the combination of the mouth blown glass and the very attractive shape demonstrates to perfection how glass and lighting can be almost magical together.

The glass shade lies on a small metal piece, fixed to the cord by lock-screws to support the weight of the glass shade.
