About the design

This beautiful chandelier is designed by Bent Karlby for LYFA in the early 1940s.

A charming and very stylish chandelier with three hand-blown double opal glass shades, each resting on a brass base featuring the signature Karlby decorative rim. On top of the rounded opal glass shades lies a brass lid with the same decorative rim as the base.

The shades are slightly titled away from the center by curvy brass arms, extended from a small egg-shaped center. The center features a short brass pipe to guide the cord upwards and ensure alignment when hung. The opal glass shades is designed to provide a uniformly lit surface, while ensuring a soft comfortable light. The brass rims glows on each shade when lit, as the light is reflected onto the shinny brass rims – which emphasizes its presence.

A captivating rare early 1940s chandelier with beautiful details – fit for many purposes – being an gorgeous chandelier in a hallway or being an impressive light in the living room.

Bent Karlby designed a number of chandeliers for LYFA in the late 1930s and up through the 1940 – many with softly curved opal glass shades and decorative brass frames.
