About the design

The Clover leaf is a taper candle holder designed by Jens H. Quistgaard for Dansk Designs in 1960-61.

It is a candle holder for up to 4 tapers (thin candles with a diameter of 0.4″ / 1,2 mm) in cast iron. The four tapered legs each carry a leaf shaped platform in which a holder is placed in the middle. The four leafs extends and meets in the middle.

Jens H. Quistgaard (IHQ) designed the CLOVER LEAF around 1960-61 (first advertised in the New Yorker in 1961) in cast iron with either a rough sandy finish or shiny enameled finish. Along with this candle holder, he designed five other candle holders for taper candles – the first six cast iron candle holders Quistgaard designed for Dansk Designs. A couple of years later came the famous Spider and the special tiny taper candles, which became a huge success for Quistgaard and Dansk Designs.

The early editions features brass inserts in the holders, and they are also often unmarked.
