CLOVER LEAF (pair), orange enameled taper holders by Jens Quistgaard for Dansk Designs in 1960-61 - Sculptural Mid-century Modern enameled candle holders for 1/2" tapers - each fits 4 candles!
The CLOVER LEAF is a candle holder for up to 4 tapers (thin candles with a diameter of 0.4" / 1,2 mm) in cast iron, covered with a shiny orange enamel finish. The four tapered legs each carry a leaf shaped platform in which a holder is placed in the middle. The four leafs extends and meets in the middle.
Jens H. Quistgaard (IHQ) designed the CLOVER LEAF around 1960-61 (first advertised in the New Yorker in 1961) in cast iron with either a rough sandy finish or shiny enameled finish. Along with this candle holder, he designed five other candle holders for taper candles - the first six cast iron candle holders Quistgaard designed for Dansk Designs. A couple of years later came the famous Spider and the special tiny taper candles, which became a huge success for Quistgaard and Dansk Designs.
The sleek, organic shape combined with the bold orange color would be a stylish addition to a Scandinavian Modern teak or rosewood credenza or coffee table, creating a beautiful contrast to the warm wood. Or decorating a dining table setting with their elegant shape and gorgeous rich color.
