FD 518 Lamp table
Teak lamp table by Hvidt & Molgaard for France and Son in 1956. Danish Mid Century Modern teak side table or lamp table with cane shelf
FD 518 – teak lamp table by Hvidt & Mølgaard for France & Son in 1956 – gorgeous minimalist teak side table or lamp table with cane shelf in very good vintage condition!
A striking example of Danish Mid century design – the trapezoidal shaped teak table top with sleek thin knife edge and soft rounded corners, the similar profile on the teak frame on the shelf underneath with caned webbing, cleverly held in place between the four legs – a piece that oozes Danish craftsmanship.
The minimalist design underlines the subtle details, making you notice the sleek thin knife edge of the table top echoed on the shelf, the perfect tight basket weave and the slightly tapered legs.
This model, FD 518, was created in 1956 by Hvidt & Mølgaard for France & Daverkosen (as the company was named at that time, the following year they changed name to France & Son) – it was part of a series of tables mainly designed to be used together with the most popular Hvidt & Mølgaard daybed at France & Daverkosen (the FD 417). In the period 1953 to 1961, Hvidt & Mølgaard designed a number of high quality furniture self-assemble pieces for France & Daverkosen, many characterized by wooden frame with caned webbing or slender foam cushions and many sought after pieces today.
The sleek minimalist profile and the trapezoidal shape of this teak FD 518 lamp table would fit in anywhere – as side table in the living room, as lamp table near a sitting area, or functioning as low table in an office space or waiting area.
